Our Journey: The Desire for a Better Solution Results in Sync 365
The Problem: My MSP was Wasting Effort Every Single Month
Hi fellow problem solver. My name is Leon Black. I started an MSP in Australia in 2013 with a mission to replace the existing break fix (ie. hope for customer problems to generate revenue which was the stabdard IT landscape at the time) with a better business model. A model that serves a customers actual IT needs – systems that just work, businesses that are guarded from unexpected and uninventable tech problems. What if I could help Australian businesses control IT costs, protect their data and ensure continuity in an effort to lift the lift profitability and reduce unexpected costs. I loathed the idea of being incentivised by waiting for a disaster that costs business time and money.
The Forensic Analysis
Fast forward to 2019, I had a great team, incredible customers and a successful business. However as I was reviewing my businesses profit margins I started to zero in on my profit erosions. What processes were contributing to margin squeeze, employee satisfaction and customer satisfaction? What if my bottom line could be better? I identified a culprit that many MSPs experience. We relied on ConnectWise Manage and Cloud Console to automate Microsoft license billing. Instead of simplifying our work, Cloud Console became a constant source of frustration—errors, inefficiencies, and high costs ate into our margins and productivity consistently! The negative compounding effect was evident.
The Catalyst
When ConnectWise announced the shutdown of Cloud Console, insisting MSPs switch to Unite at nearly double the cost, I was provoked into action not a chance I was going to give away hard earned profits for less capability. This was a catalyst to fight for my margins! I knew there had to be a better system—one that worked for MSPs, lowered the cost to serve customers, and solved the drudgery tasks we faced daily.
The Solution
After searching for a better system I realised to achieve my goals I’d have to build it myself. That’s when Sync 365 License was born (now known simply as Sync 365). The scope was simple: create a solution that aligns with how MSPs operate, delivers powerful automation, and produces exceptional value. With a background in running an MSP, I set out to build a tool designed by MSPs, for MSPs.
From Concept to Community
By late 2019, our first beta version of Sync 365 was ready, we shared it with our MSP network. The response was incredible. Our partners loved how Sync 365 simplified their workflow automation, improved accuracy, and gave them more control over license billing. Their feedback was the incentive for our continued focus.
Unlike most large software vendors, we didn’t just listen to our customers; we acted. Every feature and enhancement comes directly from our partners’ needs, empowering them to run their businesses better.
